Jasmine Shavers, an exceptional junior guard for Texas Tech, came back from a slow start to win the game against New Mexico on Tuesday. Even though Shavers had a tough time shooting (0-6 in the first half), she stepped up after Coach Krista Gerlich challenged her at break. Gerlich told both Shavers and Bailey Maupin, another guard, to step up, stressing how important it is to contribute even when shots aren't going.

In response, Shavers scored 10 points in the fourth quarter that were very important and helped Texas Tech win 75–68. The score run put a lot of distance between them and a tough New Mexico team that had been ahead late in the third quarter.

"She was very big." The coach said, "She needs to show up." She stressed that players need to contribute in many ways, like by playing defence, getting rebounds, or helping out friends, especially on nights when they don't have to shoot. Shavers' performance showed how tough she is and how good a leader she is. It helped the team win and showed how she can handle pressure when it matters the most.
