Dr. Jeffrey Colvin, an anesthesiologist from Lubbock, has been convicted of indecent assault by a jury and is now facing potential jail time. The situation arises from claims put forth by a former employee who stated that Colvin's interaction during a medical procedure went beyond what was required for medical purposes.

The incident prompted the employee to resign from her position in September 2023, soon after the inappropriate encounter.

This conviction comes after a number of previous violations. In February, the Texas Medical Board determined that Dr. Colvin was guilty of issuing more than 60 prescriptions while his medical license was suspended. In March, he consented to an order limiting his license to treat exclusively male patients.

In December 2022, the Texas Medical Board issued a temporary suspension of Colvin’s medical license following his arrest in November of the same year. Nonetheless, the board’s website fails to show any updates after his recent conviction.

State District Judge Mark Hocker has set the sentencing date for Dr. Colvin for next month. He could be sentenced to as much as a year in prison for the charge of indecent assault.

This case highlights the critical need for accountability and patient safety within the medical field. Additional updates are anticipated as the sentencing process progresses.
