On Saturday, Texas Tech (4-1, 2-0 Big 12) earned a 44-41 victory over Cincinnati (3-2, 1-1 Big 12) after the Bearcats failed to convert a 51-yard field goal that would have necessitated overtime. The Red Raiders remain undefeated in Big 12 play for the first time in two weeks since 2013.
Leading the charge was quarterback Behren Morton, who threw for 251 yards and two touchdowns, both of which were caught by Coy Eakin. Josh Kelly contributed eight receptions for 111 yards but did not score. Tahj Brooks was the most dominant player on the ground, accumulating 172 yards and two touchdowns on 32 carries.
Texas Tech's defensive efforts resulted in two turnovers, both of which were converted into touchdowns. Brendan Sorsby, the quarterback for the Cincinnati Bengals, completed passes for 426 yards and four touchdowns. However, the Red Raiders recovered a crucial interception, which they used to score a touchdown.
The head coach, Joey McGuire, has improved his record to 19-12 overall and 14-3 at home. Next week, Texas Tech will travel to Arizona for a 10 p.m. CT kickoff. They will then return home to host Baylor on October 19.
