According to Lubbock Power & Light (LP&L), power has been restored to Texas Tech University’s south and west sides after an unexpected outage Monday morning. The outage, which occurred at approximately 9:40 a.m., was attributed to an underground circuit issue and was unrelated to the widespread power disruptions the campus experienced on March 12.

In an official update, Texas Tech President Lawrence Schovanec acknowledged the frustration caused by recent power issues but assured students and staff that LP&L crews acted immediately to assess and restore electricity. While power is back, some essential systems such as climate control and chilled water may take additional time to stabilize fully.

LP&L has committed to conducting a root cause analysis of the incident to prevent future disruptions. Additionally, Texas Tech and LP&L are collaborating on long-term upgrades to strengthen electrical infrastructure reliability across campus.

With six weeks remaining in the semester, the university reaffirmed its commitment to minimizing disruptions and continuing in-person instruction. Texas Tech will provide further updates as needed and appreciates the patience of students, faculty, and staff.
