A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Lubbock and areas nearby until Friday at 6:00 AM CST. This is because a wintry mix is bringing snow, ice, and dangerous road conditions to the area. Over the South Plains, snowfall of up to 2 inches is expected, with some areas getting as much as 4 inches. There may also be a thin layer of ice on top of the freezing rain, especially in Crosby, Hale, and Lynn counties.

Thursday had a mix of snow and freezing rain, and later in the afternoon, there was going to be some mild snowfall. The temperature stayed in the lower to mid-30s, and winds from the southwest were moving northwest at 5 to 15 mph. People were told to get ready for a cloudy, cold day with a 60% chance of rain.

As the evening goes on, snow showers will stop, leaving roads that are slippery and wet. Lows overnight will drop to the mid-teens to high 20s, and north winds up to 25 mph will be gusty. The chance of rain drops to 30%, but icy spots will still be a problem for Friday morning drivers.

On Friday, the clouds will slowly lift, but it will still be cool, with highs in the mid-30s to low-40s. Conditions will stay cool with 10 to 20 mph winds from the northwest to the northeast.

People who drive should be careful, especially on bridges and overpasses, where there may be slippery spots. It gets light at 7:52 AM CST and goes dark at 5:57 PM CST.
