Utah was ranked sixth in the Big 12 Tournament, but Texas Tech shocked everyone by beating them 75–64 on Thursday. They did this by playing tough defense and dominating the second quarter. All night, the 14th-seeded Lady Raiders put Utah in tough spots by holding them to 39% field-goal shooting and 8-for-28 shooting from three-point range.
The head coach of Utah said, "They did a good job of taking away what we like to do." "We weren’t able to get into a rhythm."
The second quarter was all Texas Tech. They outscored Utah 21–10 and used a full-court press that stopped the Utes' offense. The Lady Raiders found ways to score even when Utah had good defensive possession. They often made deep shots as the shot clock ran out.
At the other end, Gianna Kneepkens scored 23 points to lead Utah, and Bailey Maupin scored 22 points for Texas Tech. Even though Utah made a late push, the Lady Raiders never gave up, sealing the win and moving on in the playoffs.
Utah's next big event is Selection Sunday. The Utes are expected to be the seventh seed in the NCAA Tournament.
