Universities across Texas are reporting a wave of foreign students having their visas revoked. There have been 118 confirmed cases statewide, including three at Texas Tech University. As a result of President Trump's tighter enforcement of immigration laws, nearly 600 student visas across the country have been revoked since he took office.

According to the U.S. Department of State, the revocations were caused by executive orders meant to make the border safer. Although these rules were first made for foreign government officials, they now affect students from many different schools.

The Department said to KCBD, "The Department will continue to revoke visas daily to secure America's borders and keep our communities safe." **

Texas Tech is not the only school in Texas that will be touched. UNT, UT Dallas, UT Arlington, UT Rio Grande Valley, and Texas Woman's University are also affected.

Officials at Tech said that students whose visas are about to expire have not been charged with any crimes, and the university is doing what it can to help these students keep their academic lives as normal as possible.

The students' records were often "terminated in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS)". This means that the students must leave the U.S. and apply for a visa again from another country. Once the visa is expired, it can't be renewed.

Federal officials have not clarified how they choose which students to deport, but the Department of Homeland Security says that visa status is continually being examined.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said, "A student visa is like me inviting you into my home," which was the same position as the government. You will be kicked out if you mess it up. **
