Aaliyah Chavez, the top-ranked high school basketball player in the class of 2025, has officially committed to the Oklahoma Sooners. She is one of the most important names to ever sign with the school. Chavez told ESPN's "SportsCenter" live on Tuesday afternoon that she had chosen Oklahoma over Texas, Texas Tech, LSU, South Carolina, and UCLA.

The 5-foot-9 point guard from Lubbock Monterey High School won the prestigious Gatorade Girls' Basketball Player of the Year award because she was the best high school basketball player. She led the Lady Plainsmen to a state title, which was one of the few trophies she still needed from her high school experience.

Chavez has been called a McDonald's All-American and won several Player of the Year awards, including the prestigious Naismith Player of the Year award. Chavez is in very good company with basketball greats like Breanna Stewart, Maya Moore, Paige Bueckers, and Juju Watkins because she was named Gatorade Player of the Year.

Chavez chose to play for Oklahoma, which has a team that is on the rise and could make a deep run in future NCAA tournaments. Oklahoma will be able to compete with top programs like South Carolina, LSU, and UConn thanks to her choice, which is a huge win for their recruiting efforts.

Many think Chavez will make an instant difference when she steps onto the court in Norman because of her skills, ability to lead, and championship experience.
