Late on Wednesday night, Hurricane Milton made landfall on the coast of Florida as a Category 3 storm. Prior to that, it had spent the majority of Tuesday as a strong Category 5 system.
A maximum sustained wind speed of 120 miles per hour was recorded by the storm as it made landfall close to Siesta Key at approximately 8:30 p.m.Urgent warnings were made by state officials to those individuals who continued to be in the path of the storm.
Residents who did not leave were given the advice to take refuge in their homes, as it was determined that the prospects of survival for those who remained behind were extremely low.
The Governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, stated during a press conference that "we are bracing." "It is going to give rise to a great deal of ferocity and a great deal of damage."Depending on the location where the eyewall of the cyclone made landfall, officials also issued a warning that storm surges may be higher than 12 feet in certain portions of the country.
The outer bands of Milton carried with them torrential rain, gusty winds, and multiple tornadoes over the state earlier on Wednesday. As a result, Florida was placed on high alert for additional destruction.
