LUBBOCK, TEXAS – In a tragic turn of events last night, a charter bus carrying members of the Abilene Christian University (ACU) football team was involved in a serious accident in Lubbock, Texas, shortly after their game against Texas Tech. The collision, which occurred near the Jones AT&T Stadium, resulted in injuries to four individuals, including ACU head coach Keith Patterson.
According to the Lubbock Police Department, the accident happened around 11:30 PM when the bus, traveling back to ACU, collided with another vehicle at an intersection. Emergency services quickly responded to the scene, transporting the injured to the University Medical Center in Lubbock. Coach Patterson, along with three other individuals, was treated for minor injuries and later released from the hospital.
“We are grateful that the injuries were not more severe, and we are keeping those affected in our thoughts and prayers,” said ACU Athletic Director Zack Lassiter in a statement. “We appreciate the quick response from emergency personnel and the care provided by the University Medical Center staff.”
The accident has raised concerns about the safety of transporting sports teams, especially during late hours. The Lubbock Police are currently investigating the incident to determine the exact cause of the collision.
The ACU football team had traveled to Lubbock for their season opener against Texas Tech, a game that ended in a dramatic 52-51 victory for the Red Raiders. The match was closely contested, drawing significant attention from both local fans and national sports media.
