Wayland Baptist University inaugurated Dr. Donna Hedgepath as its 14th president and first female leader on Monday. Hedgepath, who began her tenure in July, has already achieved progress under "Better Together," inspired by Ecclesiastes 4:9–12.

In her inauguration address, Hedgepath stressed the university's readiness to foster academic and spiritual progress, comparing Wayland to "fertile soil preparing for a good crop," citing Matthew 13:3-8. "We're enhancing technology, improving student spaces, and hiring dedicated faculty and staff to empower students not just in their professions but in kingdom work," Hedgepath told me.

Hedgepath previously worked as the provost and vice president of academic affairs at Campbellsville University in Kentucky. Her leadership philosophy was shaped by her experiences as a music educator, professor, and dean. Her nomination came after a lengthy presidential search and overwhelming support from Wayland's Board of Trustees.

The inauguration ceremony honored Hedgepath's Kentucky heritage, with participation from Campbellsville colleagues, including Chancellor Emeritus H. Keith Spears, who gave the inaugural charge. "Donna Hedgepath's legacy at Campbellsville has made it stronger, and now Wayland will benefit from her visionary leadership," Spears told me.

Hedgepath holds postgraduate degrees in music instruction and gifted education certification, providing a fresh perspective to Wayland Baptist University as it embarks on a new era of innovation and growth.
