LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech suffered a 37-16 loss to Washington State on Saturday night, as they encountered difficulties both offensively and defensively. The Red Raiders, who are currently 1-1 on the season, were unable to surmount turnovers, penalties, and the absence of their top running back, Tahj Brooks.
Washington State initiated the game by recovering a "pooch" kick on the initial kickoff, which provided the Cougars with advantageous field position. Despite the fact that the Tech defense was able to secure an interception in the opening minutes, the Red Raider offense was unable to capitalize, resulting in a punt. John Mateer, the quarterback for Washington State, guided the Cougars to their inaugural touchdown, which gave them a 7-0 lead. Texas Tech responded with a field goal to conclude the first quarter with a score of 7-3.
In the second quarter, Washington State dominated, scoring 20 points. Tech's sole response was a touchdown on a double pass, resulting in a 27-10 halftime score. Ultimately, the Red Raiders suffered a 37-16 defeat as a result of penalties and mishaps in the second half.
On September 14, Texas Tech will attempt to regain momentum by hosting North Texas, with the game commencing at 11:00 a.m.
