LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) — The City of Lubbock’s Public Health Department urges residents to vaccinate before flu season begins. Public Health Director Katherine Wells emphasized that although flu and COVID-19 cases remain mild, vaccination remains critical for protection.
Lubbock's Public Health Director, Katherine Wells, is encouraging residents to receive vaccinations for both influenza and COVID-19 as flu season approaches. Wells informed EverythingLubbock.com that respiratory viruses, particularly COVID and flu, experience an increase in prevalence during the autumn season, necessitating vaccination for prevention.
"So the estimates are showing it's going to be more of a mild flu season," according to Wells. "That does not imply that you should forgo your vaccine; however, it appears to be mild." Additionally, there has been a recent increase in the number of COVID-19 cases throughout the United States.
Wells recommended that it is both safe and convenient to receive both the flu and COVID-19 vaccines concurrently. She clarified that the COVID vaccine was initially introduced with apprehensions regarding its potential adverse effects, which led to apprehension regarding its combination with other vaccines. The hazards are now well-understood, despite the fact that millions of doses have been administered.
Wells emphasized, "It is safe to obtain both vaccines concurrently," encouraging residents to safeguard themselves as the cooler months approach.
