During his inaugural State of the City address, Lubbock Mayor Mark McBrayer contemplated the city's advancements and delineated upcoming objectives. At the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center, McBrayer highlighted the accomplishments in public safety, notably the Lubbock Police Department’s perfect murder clearance rate in 2024. Although certain crime categories experienced reductions, others rose, leading to continued initiatives aimed at improving public safety.

McBrayer highlighted Lubbock’s effective financial management, pointing out that property tax rates were reduced in 2024. The increase in the city's sales tax revenue has enabled ongoing investment in public services while maintaining fiscal responsibility.

Infrastructure continues to be a key focus, featuring important advancements in road bond initiatives and the renewal of Broadway Avenue. McBrayer reiterated his dedication to enhancing the city's transportation system while ensuring it remains affordable for residents.

The event, organized by the Lubbock Apartment Association, upheld its tradition of philanthropy, with proceeds directed towards the Guadalupe Parkway Neighborhood Centers—a charity chosen by McBrayer and his wife, Cindy.

Concluding his speech with a sense of hope, McBrayer referenced a well-known saying in Lubbock: “Lucky me, I live in Lubbock,” emphasizing his conviction that the city is headed towards a bright and successful future.
