A ranking by CNBC of the country's top 75 schools says that Texas Tech University's sports program is the most valuable in the Big 12 Conference. Texas Tech is ranked No. 33 among FBS schools overall. It is worth $619 million and makes $147 million a year.

With a ranking of No. 37, Kansas is the second-best Big 12 school. The top team in the country is Ohio State. Texas is in second place, and Texas A&M is in third.

The study, which was made by CNBC and Jason Belzer of AthleticDirectorU working together, looked at how much programs are worth by using income data from the Department of Education's Equity in Athletics Data Analysis and the Knight Commission on Intercollegiate Athletics for the fiscal year 2023. Private equity investors and other experts in the field were also asked to rate the programs' market value.

The results come at a time when the Big 12 Conference, led by Commissioner Brett Yormark, is trying to strengthen its position and bring in more money to the college sports industry, which is changing quickly.

The high value of Texas Tech's sports brand shows how strong and marketable it is, boosting the school's status as a conference powerhouse.
