After an exciting game that went into extra innings on Friday, No. 1 Texas softball made it clear in its second game against No. 11/8 Texas Tech by beating them 11–0 in just five innings.
The Longhorns' offense was too much for the Red Raiders to handle. Katie Stewart, a junior catcher and infielder, led the way with five RBIs, including a three-run homer in the third inning.
"We made Texas Tech's pitchers throw strikes, and we took advantage of that," said Mike White, head coach of Texas. Teagan Kavan, a pitcher, did a great job under pressure, striking out five batters, including two very important ones with the bases loaded. A solo home run by junior catcher Reese Atwood added to the offensive show. It was her 37th home run of the season, which is the fifth most in school history.
The Longhorns' controlled at-bats were hard for Texas Tech's pitching rotation, which was missing star junior NiJaree Canady. Texas has now won 14 straight games against Texas Tech. They will now go to Tucson for the Hillenbrand Invitational, where they will play No. 20/22 Stanford, Colorado State, UC Davis, and No. 15 Arizona.
