LUBBOCK- Patrick Mahomes II and his wife Brittany have made a substantial donation of $5 million to the $242 million South End Zone and Dustin R. Womble Football Center initiative at Texas Tech University.
This was according to an announcement issued by the Texas Tech Athletics Department on Thursday.
Texas Tech will honor their alumnus, Mahomes by having the walkthrough area in the soon-to-be-finished Womble Football Center named after him. This is in gratitude for their generosity.
Additionally, his name will be engraved on the meeting room for the quarterback and the office of the offensive coordinator, which are located in the new South End Zone Building at Jones AT&T Stadium.
Kirby Hocutt, the Director of Athletics at Texas Tech, stated, "When we initiated this campaign, Patrick was a freshman. It is only fitting that we conclude the campaign with a gift that is specifically tailored to him." The director continued, "We are on the brink of concluding the campaign with a personal gift."
Hocutt shares, “We are overjoyed to report that Patrick and Brittany Mahomes have presented us with this extraordinary gift. We are filled with immense pride in Patrick's accomplishments and his consistent support of Texas Tech on a global scale.”
Although he has only been the starting quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs for six seasons, Mahomes has already established himself as a spectacular figure.
He has won three Super Bowls. He is the recipient of three Most Valuable Player awards and has guided the team to three Super Bowl victories during his tenure as head coach. As a quarterback, he is one of just five quarterbacks in the history of the National Football League to win three Super Bowls.
He is also the only Red Raider to accomplish this level of success at the age of only 28.
In addition to his athletic accomplishments, Mahomes continues to be a devoted fan of Texas Tech.
In addition to being inducted into the Texas Tech Hall of Fame in 2022, he has been a fan of the Red Raiders for the past three seasons and has attended a number of their games.
His participation in the program continues to serve as a source of motivation for both existing and aspiring student-athletes.
