Vicki Lee Grisham, who used to be the CFO of First State Bank of Abernathy, Texas, and is 52 years old, was given 33 months in federal jail on Thursday for stealing more than $800,000. U.S. District Judge James Wesley Hendrix gave her the term and told her she had to pay back $800,755.63 and be under supervision for five years after she got out of jail.
In July, Grisham admitted to a felony charge of theft, embezzlement, or misapplication by a bank worker. She revealed that she had paid for vacations, clothes, college tuition, restaurant bills, and even her taxes with a company credit card. Even though she was in charge of handling and paying the card's bills, she didn't pay back the bank for the fraudulent charges.
When the theft was found in March 2023, the bank had to talk to Grisham about it. She signed a document saying that she had used money for her gain.
As part of her plea deal, Grisham signed an FDIC Order of Prohibition, which means she can't work for any FDIC-insured bank in the future.
The Dallas Field Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation led the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Ann Howey handled the case.
This sentence is a good reminder of how important it is to be responsible and trust banking institutions.
