This weekend will be warm and windy again in the South Plains, which makes flames more likely. Even though the winds won't be as strong as they have been in the past, gusts could still reach 30 mph on Saturday, mostly from the southwest. The stronger winds will raise the temperature into the low to mid-80s, making it easier for fires to spread in dry places.

The weekend will have mostly sunny skies, making it a nice time to be outside despite a higher fire risk. But people are being asked to be careful when burning things outside or doing other things that could start fires.

A cold front will hit the area on Sunday, moving winds to the northeast and causing temperatures to drop slightly. The high temperature in the afternoon will drop to about 70 degrees, which will be a short cooldown before next week's warmer weather.

The trend of warmth will continue into next week, and by Thursday and Friday, it's more likely to rain. This possible rain could bring much-needed relief to the area after weeks of dry and windy weather.
