On Wednesday, it is still very cold in the South Plains and Rolling Plains, with light snowfall and freezing fog making driving dangerous. Snow will fall slightly in some places, and bridges, overpasses, and roads may freeze over. People who are moving are asked to be careful.
It will be between the teens and the lower 30s in the morning, but the wind chill will be well below 0°F, making it feel even colder. There will be 10 to 20 mph winds from the northeast to the north in the morning and evening. The chance of rain or snow stays at 10%, and the clouds will only partly clear up by the afternoon.
The clouds will stay mainly clear to partly cloudy tonight, and the temperature will drop to between 0°F and the lower 10s. Again, wind chills below zero are likely.
The extreme cold weather is expected to last until Thursday when highs only reach the mid-20s to mid-30s. Lows of wind chill will last into the morning. The winds will change direction and speed up to 5 to 15 mph.
Several counties in Texas are still under an Extreme Cold Warning until Thursday at noon CST. Wind chills could reach -15°F. Parts of New Mexico are under a separate Cold Weather Advisory because the wind chill is between -10°F and 0°F.
Residents are told to be careful, wear clothes, and stay inside for long periods of time. They should also keep up with area weather forecasts and plan for possible problems with travel.
