Court records state that a Lubbock County man accused of killing one person and injured another in a Jan. 19 shooting behaved out of paranoia.
Following the incident at a house in the 5600 block of East County Road 6300, 48-year- Paxton Kubica is charged with murder and numerous counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. His bond is fixed at $200,000.
At 3:40 a.m., the incident deputies to a shots-fired call and found 55-year-old Bronnie Paul Vaughn dead inside the house. Another man, Jorge Alberto Moreno Deleon, 37, was discovered with lower body and torso gunshot wounds. He underwent therapy at University Medical Center.
Following a SWAT team incursion Kubica was apprehended. About twenty minutes later, his girlfriend Caitlynn Bryant left the bedroom they were in and let deputies grab him.
Court records show Kubica's paranoia toward Vaughn, Deleon, and a third guy temporarily staying with the couple. A witness related hearing seven to eight gunshots and Kubica threatening him with a gun before giving him orders to contact 911 for an ambulance.
Kubica allegedly told investigators he acted out of worry for Bryant's safety. He said he shot Vaughn first, then Deleon, although he also admitted none of the guys carried weapons.
After the incident, Kubica later apologized to Bryant saying she seemed paranoid.
Kubica is still in prison in Lubbock County Detention Center. The Lubbock Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit is looking at this case.
