LUBBOCK, Texas - Following Roy Don Cash's passing on Sunday, Texas Tech University President Lawrence Schovanec shared a poignant social media post in which he expressed "deep respect and admiration" for him.
Cash, a prominent member of the Texas Tech Foundation board of directors, was recognized for his substantial contributions to the university and the community. He was the retired chairman of Cash Family Investments, which includes ranching operations, investment enterprises, and the Don-Kay-Clay Cash Foundation.
Schovanec underscored Cash's extraordinary generosity, which benefited numerous causes, stating that "Don made a significant impact on Texas Tech University, our community, and the region at large."
Cash was a member of the Ranching Heritage Association's board of directors, a non-profit organization committed to preserving North America's ranching heritage, in addition to his position at the Texas Tech Foundation. The National Ranching Heritage Center recognized Cash and his wife, Kay, for their "indelible bootprints" on the organization, stating, "The ranching community lost a good one."
Cash served on the TTU Foundation board from 2002 to 2011, serving as chair from 2009 to 2011. He subsequently returned to the board from 2015 to 2019. In June 2021, he was appointed an honorary emeritus director in recognition of his commitment. Kay and he are both graduates of Texas Tech, as is their son, Clay.
Schovanec concluded, "Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Cash family."
