Two aggressive dogs attacked a San Angelo animal control officer while he was responding to a call, resulting in his critical condition. The incident occurred on Wednesday near the 20th block of Cloud Street, as per city officials. The officer, whose identity has not been disclosed, was called to a residence in response to reports of numerous aggressive dogs on the site.

According to San Angelo City Manager Daniel Valenzuela, the officer discovered at least ten canines that belonged to a homeowner. Two large, aggressive dogs escaped and attacked the officer as the officer arrived, and the property owner opened a gate, according to witnesses. The officer sustained severe cuts, a fractured arm, and multiple bite wounds as a consequence of the assault.

Due to the severity of his injuries, the officer was evacuated to Lubbock for additional treatment after emergency responders promptly transported him to a nearby medical facility. “I implore the community to pray for the officer and his family while we await additional information regarding his condition,” Valenzuela requested. "This person is a public servant willing to risk his life."

The owner's consent was obtained for the euthanasia of the two dogs that were involved in the attack. The San Angelo Police Department has initiated an inquiry into the circumstances that led to the incident.

City officials and community members have both expressed their concern and support for the injured officer, emphasizing the daily risks that animal control personnel encounter in the pursuit of public safety.
