Another longtime Lubbock company closed. Master Cleaners will close on March 7, 2025, after many years in the neighborhood.

The company emailed consumers to inform them that it was closing permanently due to "unforeseen circumstances," but it provided no further details. People should grab any remaining clothes before the store closes.

Master Cleaners has adjusted its hours to better serve consumers in the weeks before closing:

Every Monday through Friday, noon to five and 9 AM–1 PM Saturdays.

Master Cleaners is Lubbock's newest small business to close. This is becoming increasingly typical as the economy hurts local companies. Since COVID-19, more people have worked from home, reducing the demand for skilled garment washing, which hurts the dry cleaning company.

Self-service laundromats are still doing well, but dry cleaning firms have struggled in recent years. According to Business Insider, the pandemic hurt the sector because fewer professionals required their clothing cleaned and pressed every day. Dry cleaners nationwide closed permanently because many never wholly recovered.

The closing of Master Cleaners reminds Lubbock residents how hard small businesses are struggling. Although it's unfortunate to see a long-standing business close, we wish Master Cleaners the best in their future endeavors.
