LUBBOCK, TX—Bruce Gaines, a long-time Lubbock resident, transformed a routine Sunday into a life-saving mission when he rescued a woman stranded in a submerged vehicle at Dunbar Lake in Mae Simmons Park.

Gaines recounted the terrifying incident, stating, "I drove my vehicle directly up to them, and when I emerged, it was submerged in the water." I was aware that an individual would perish if they were unable to evacuate within a few minutes.

Gaines discovered a man and a woman inside the automobile when he discovered it upside down in the lake. Although the male was able to escape, the woman was unable to do so. Another bystander arrived to assist as he feverishly searched for the car handle. Gaines recollected, "She assisted in opening the door by turning the handle." "We seized her and began to pull her, but she refused to rise." We were beginning to run out of time, and her head was approximately this far submerged.

Gaines appreciated the prompt assistance and characterized the entire experience as a marvel.

The woman's life was saved by the swift actions of both Gaines and the other woman, underscoring the significance of community vigilance and preparedness to respond to emergencies.
