Christian Anderson, a freshman, made a big impression in his first game as a professional. He scored 21 points, including five 3-pointers, to help No. 9 Texas Tech beat West Virginia 73–51 on Saturday in Lubbock. JT Toppin scored 22 points in this game and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Red Raiders (21-6, 12-4 Big 12). Elijah Hawkins and Kevin Overton each scored 10 points.
Chance McMillian was out with a right ankle injury and was seen wearing a boot. Anderson filled in for him. It was missed McMillian, who scored 15.1 points per game and was Texas Tech's second-leading scorer. But Anderson's sharp shooting filled the void.
West Virginia (16-11, 7-9) had a tough time scoring, with top scorer Javon Small scoring only 10 points on 3-of-14 shooting while hurting his ankle. Amani Hansberry had 14 points and 11 boards for the Mountaineers, giving him his second straight double-double.
Texas Tech made 46.4% of its field goal shots in the first half, but 62.5% in the second. The Red Raiders were especially dangerous from three-point range. They made 7 of 11 three-pointers in the second half and 9 of 22 overall.
