Starting their 50th basketball season with a strong 78-48 triumph over Incarnate Word, the Texas Tech Lady Raiders claimed their first victory.

Former Lubbock native Adlee Blacklock, who left Oregon State, was spearheading the effort. Blacklock proved her ability to the local supporters by scoring 14 points and adding five rebounds on her return home.

Veteran players Jasmin Shavers and Bailey Maupin also helped the team to win; they scored 13 and 12 points respectively. With seven rebounds forward Jordyn Merritt led Texas Tech, Kilah Freelon added six boards to fortify the Lady Raiders' defense. Denae Fritz led in assists with four, therefore helping the team to score.

Inspired by this season opening triumph, the Lady Raiders will stay on their home court for their next game. Thursday at 6 p.m., they square off against Houston Baptist at the United Supermarkets Arena, trying to keep up their great start to this historic season.
