For the remainder of this week, residents of the South Plains should get ready for potentially hazardous fire weather and strong winds, with the most severe conditions anticipated to occur on Friday. As a result of dry conditions and high gusts, the National Weather Service has issued a fire weather watch for Wednesday afternoon, which warns of an increased danger of wildfires.

Winds could reach up to 55 miles per hour by Friday, increasing the likelihood of dust blowing, travel problems, and the spread of fire. Today's forecast calls for bright skies, a temperature of approximately 77 degrees Fahrenheit, and southwest winds of 15 miles per hour. Temperatures will drop to 39 degrees Fahrenheit overnight, with primarily clear skies and winds ranging between 10 and 15 miles per hour.

Officials are urging homeowners to refrain from burning outside and to secure any loose things that could be damaged by high winds as the fire conditions worsen. It is crucial for people living in places prone to fire to have a plan for evacuating the area ready.

As conditions evolve, you should be vigilant for weather updates and cautions.
