TxDOT has launched a $922,390 maintenance project to repair and enhance bridges in Lubbock, Garza, and Hale counties. The project will be handled by Frisco, Texas-based ICOS Management, LLC, and will include bridge joint replacement as well as deck and concrete repairs. Work on Lubbock's 42nd Street bridge over Interstate 27 began on Tuesday.

The affected bridges include:

  • Lubbock County: 42nd Street, 50th Street, and Erskine Street at I-27
  • Garza County: FM 669 south of Post
  • Hale County: SH 194 at Running Water Draw, I-27 at Callahan Draw, and I-27 frontage road turnaround in Hale Center

During renovations, bridges will be temporarily closed to all traffic, with detours leading drivers to neighboring routes such as 34th and 50th streets. TxDOT has confirmed that the 42nd Street bridge will reopen before the Christmas holiday, minimizing disruption during the busy travel season.

The full project is scheduled to be completed by summer 2025. This endeavor is part of TxDOT's ongoing efforts to keep its transportation infrastructure safe and efficient for both residents and passengers. Drivers are asked to arrange alternate routes and be cautious around construction zones.
