Texas Tech University has acquired 3 Rivers Ranch, a 6,000-acre property in Foard County, to enhance its research capabilities. Dr. Ted Koch and the Three Rivers Foundation for the Arts and Sciences donated the ranch to the Texas Tech System. It is situated ten miles west of Crowell, between Amarillo and the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.
The 3 Rivers Ranch has long been a popular destination for astronomers, as the region is devoid of light pollution. It provides an optimal environment for astronomical research and viewing. The ranch is already equipped with an observatory and numerous high-powered telescopes, which will further enhance Texas Tech's research in this area.
In addition to astronomy, the Texas Tech System intends to further research in agriculture, STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), and medical at the ranch. Due to its expansive open spaces, the property offers a distinctive opportunity to advance research initiatives in these areas, thereby bolstering Texas Tech's reputation as a leader in innovative research.
The gift represents a substantial advancement in Texas Tech's dedication to the advancement of educational excellence and scientific discovery, thereby expanding the university's research reach into the rural regions of West Texas.
