Lubbock is getting ready for freezing winter weather, so the city's public libraries are opening up as warming places to help people escape the cold. From Tuesday to Thursday, the City of Lubbock warned people to be careful because of the freezing weather.
The City of Lubbock Public Libraries said in a news release that all of their branches will be warming centers during regular business hours. Water, free Wi-Fi, and charging stations will be available until Friday at 6 p.m.
In addition to the libraries, an emergency warming center may be opened if the temperature drops below 25 degrees, there is at least an inch of snow, or the wind chill is very high. The City of Lubbock's Office of Emergency Management is still monitoring the situation and will change its resources as needed.
