Celebrated as a historic event, Levelland, Texas, welcomed Erica O'Bryon as the first female police chief sworn in during a Monday night ceremony at city hall. Having almost twenty years of experience, Chief O'Bryon expressed enthusiasm and thanks for the chance.
"My family made significant process investments. I shed a little but was thrilled to be on the team.
Beginning her police enforcement career in New Mexico in 2005, O'Bryon filled positions as a training officer, public information officer, and patrol officer. Her pioneering career continued in Texas, where she was the first female sergeant, lieutenant, and captain in past agencies. She brings her legacy forward in Levelland now.
The glass ceiling is cracked here. She remarked, "I hope to open doors for young women hoping for a job in law enforcement."
Increasing community involvement with the Levelland Police Department comes first for Chief O'Bryon. Her formal start date is December 2, and she intends to foster closer ties between officials and citizens.
City Manager James Fisher noted O'Bryon's extraordinary credentials: "We searched over 40 candidates, and she stood out as the top choice."
By assuming this leadership role, O'Bryon hopes to motivate people to follow their dreams and show that, in any area, tenacity and commitment can break down obstacles.
