On September 15, 2024, an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump was foiled by Secret Service agents at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida. Trump was playing golf when a man, later identified as 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh, was spotted hiding in nearby bushes with an AK-47-style rifle. Secret Service agents quickly responded, firing at the suspect before he fled the scene in a black Nissan.

Authorities captured Routh shortly after on Interstate 95, and they recovered the rifle along with ceramic tiles and a GoPro camera from his hiding spot. According to Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw, Trump was 400 to 500 yards away from the suspect when the attack was interrupted.

This marks the second assassination attempt on Trump in just two months, with the first taking place at a rally in Pennsylvania in July. Trump was unharmed in both incidents and released a statement thanking the Secret Service for their swift action, assuring his supporters that "nothing will slow me down."

The FBI is leading the investigation, with potential state and federal charges expected to follow. Public figures, including President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, have condemned the violence and expressed relief that Trump was unharmed.
