Late Thursday evening, Memphis, Texas Police Chief Rex Plant was shot while serving an arrest warrant. A manhunt is currently ongoing. According to authorities, as Chief Plant and another officer were attempting to apprehend 33-year-old Seth Altman for burglary, Altman fired a weapon and escaped the scene. Just after 11 p.m., officers approached a residence when the gunshot took place.

Altman is said to have fled through the back entrance, fired a shot at Chief Plant, and then disappeared into the darkness. Altman, who is still at large, is currently being pursued by law enforcement agencies, including the Texas Rangers. He was last observed donning jeans and a blue shirt. Authorities are advising individuals who come into contact with Altman to refrain from approaching him and to contact 911 immediately.

Chief Plant was transported to a hospital in Lubbock, where he is currently reported to be in stable condition. Memphis, a small community situated in Hall County, approximately 130 miles northeast of Lubbock, has a population of approximately 2,000.

Governor Greg Abbott of Texas has declared a $10,000 reward for information that results in Altman's arrest. Abbott stated, "Law enforcement officers put their lives on the line every day, and they deserve our unwavering support." "I urge all individuals who possess information to come forward and assist in the prosecution of this perilous criminal."

Texas Crime Stoppers has also provided a cash reward for information in addition to the one offered by Governor Abbott. Altman has been included in the Texas Department of Public Safety's 10 Most Wanted Fugitive List, and a Blue Alert has been issued in anticipation of his capture.

Altman is regarded as armed and dangerous, and individuals who possess information are encouraged to submit an anonymous report online or contact Texas Crime Stoppers.
