A few days before Thanksgiving, LoneStar Wealth Management and the Gradient Gives Back Foundation surprised Ashleigh Harris, a mother of three from Lubbock, with a new house. It was a life-changing surprise. The house in Lubbock represents hope and security after Harris's journey to get her life back on track.
Harris, who used drugs and has been clean for nine years, talked about her gratitude in an emotional conversation. "I knew we were going to be here; I just didn’t know how," she stated. She had a hard road. At one point, she lost custody of her kids because she was addicted to drugs. She changed her ways, though, and got control of her kids back. She says her faith helped her change.
She said, "I've been walking with the Lord, and He saved me from addiction." She will soon be 10 years sober and hopes her new home will start a better life for her children.
President of LoneStar Wealth Management Mike Byers praised Harris's strength, saying, "She doesn't let her past define her; instead, she turns it into a relentless drive to improve herself and those around her." LoneStar bought the house after finding that Harris had tried to buy it but couldn't get the money to do so. They had initially planned to pay a year's rent.
Businesses in the area helped get the house ready to move into. Earl's Plumbing gave the family a home guarantee for a year, and Walmart and Home Depot gave gift cards.
Harris said, "This is the most important thing I'm thankful for this season."
